Bathrooms and kitchens are the two rooms where blind choice matters most. Get it wrong and you'll be replacing a warped, mouldy, or stained blind within a year. Get it right and your blind will look good and last for years.
What to Avoid
Real wood blinds and fabric Roman blinds are not suitable for bathrooms or kitchens. Real wood will warp and discolour in a humid environment. Fabric absorbs moisture, cooking smells, and grease — and is very difficult to clean properly.
Best Blinds for Bathrooms
Faux Wood Venetian Blinds
The most popular choice for bathrooms. Faux wood Venetians look like real wood but are made from a moisture-resistant composite material that won't warp, crack, or discolour. They wipe clean easily and are available in a wide range of colours and finishes. Available in 25mm and 50mm slat widths.
Aluminium Venetian Blinds
Lightweight, durable, and completely moisture-resistant. Aluminium Venetians are the most practical choice for bathrooms — they're easy to clean and won't be affected by steam or humidity. Available in a huge range of colours.
Perfect Fit Blinds
If you have uPVC windows in your bathroom, Perfect Fit blinds are an excellent choice. They clip directly into the window frame with no drilling, no cords, and no gaps where moisture can collect. Available as roller, pleated, or Venetian.
Moisture-Resistant Roller Blinds
Roller blinds made from moisture-resistant or wipe-clean fabrics work well in bathrooms. They're easy to clean and available in a wide range of colours and patterns. Look for fabrics with an anti-mould treatment.
Best Blinds for Kitchens
Aluminium Venetian Blinds
The classic kitchen blind. Aluminium Venetians are easy to wipe clean, moisture-resistant, and available in dozens of colours. They give you precise control over light and privacy — useful when you're cooking and don't want to be overlooked.
Wipe-Clean Roller Blinds
A wipe-clean roller blind in a plain or patterned fabric is a practical and stylish choice for kitchens. Choose a fabric with a wipe-clean or water-resistant finish so it can be cleaned quickly after cooking.
Faux Wood Venetian Blinds
If you want a warmer, more natural look in your kitchen, faux wood Venetians are a good alternative to aluminium. They're moisture-resistant and easy to clean, with the added warmth of a wood-effect finish.
A Note on Fitting
In bathrooms and kitchens, it's worth fitting blinds inside the recess rather than on the wall above the window. This keeps the blind close to the glass and reduces the chance of condensation forming behind it. We'll advise you on the best fitting method when we visit.
